Workbook Overview
This section discusses what a workbook is and the features and limitations of a workbook.
What is a Workbook?
A workbook is a file that contains one (or multiple) worksheets where you can enter and store data. Using the SEI application, this data can be customized and analyzed to suit your needs. Workbook access roles are defined in the Security Role panel. Depending on your role, you may not have access to all features.
Workbook templates are available for the following ERPs: Sage Intacct and Sage X3.
Workbook Features
SEI offers a workbook with the following:
- Workbook customization tools, including:
- Workbook wizards like the Data Extraction Wizard, Formula Wizard, Pivot Wizard, and Drill Down Wizard
- Workbook tools like the Functions feature and Hide Zero Feature
- Workbook controls like slicers, cell types, cell drop-downs, sparklines, and shortcut keys
- A feature to import a workbook from Excel
- A feature that allows you to clear the workbook cache (note that two levels of smart caching are also used)
Workbook Limitations
Note that the SEI Workbook preview is provided “as is” and is still undergoing development. It does not represent the final version of the workbook. It is not guaranteed that the service is uninterrupted or error free and it is advised that you safeguard important data and use caution when referring to the data in the workbook preview. The workbook preview is covered by the same support as your SEI Software account.
This release of the workbook has the following limitations:
Data Model parameter values cannot be changed in the workbook. You can change these values in the Data Models and Views tab.
In the Formula Wizard, if you create a formula with a Date filter, you must enter the value in this format: yyyy-mm-dd. This limitation does not apply when referencing a cell.
Using measures as filter may cause a decrease in performance.
When exporting a workbook using the Export Templates feature, you must select at least one data model if the workbook does not contain any formula.
SQL queries returned by the workbook cannot exceed a 5-minute execution time nor volumes higher than 500,000 rows. If these limits are reached, the formulas will fail with an error.
The formula wizard does not support multiple formulas within the same cell.
Newly created global variables are not immediately available in the Functions tool. Log out and log back in to get the updated list.
If you are unable to clear the cache or have formulas that keep loading for an extended period of time, you can refresh the browser, which will reset the system back to its original state. Make sure to save any changes on the worksheet before proceeding, as pending changes will be discarded and the caches cleared of all their content.
